Child safety standards

Our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Moments exists to help families privately treasure a child's early years. Protecting children is therefore not a side policy for us — it is the point. This document sets out our zero-tolerance standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), how our product is built to prevent it, how to report a concern, and how to reach us.

1. Our commitment

Moments has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the grooming or solicitation of a minor, and the sexualization of a child. Such content and conduct are strictly prohibited on Moments, and we act decisively against them.

We are committed to preventing the misuse of our service, to giving people clear ways to report concerns, to responding quickly and seriously, and to cooperating with law enforcement and child-protection authorities as required by law.

2. Who Moments is for

Moments is a private, invitation-only family journal. It is created and run by parents and guardians to document and share their own child's moments with a small circle of family and friends they personally invite. Using Moments requires a minimum age of 13 (or older where your local law requires a higher age), so a space's invited members may include, for example, an older sibling or a teenage cousin.

Much of the content on Moments is about children — that is the nature of a family journal. It is precisely because these are children's images that the entire product is built to be private and closed, and that we hold the standards described here.

3. Prohibited conduct

Using Moments for any of the following is strictly forbidden:

  • Creating, uploading, storing, requesting, or sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content that sexualizes a minor.
  • Grooming, soliciting, or attempting to exploit or endanger a child.
  • Sharing sexualized imagery of a child, whether real, altered, or AI-generated.
  • Any other conduct that abuses, exploits, or endangers a child.

These prohibitions are part of our Terms of Service. Violating them results in immediate action, up to and including permanent termination and reporting to the authorities (sections 7 and 8).

4. Safety by design

Moments is deliberately built without the features that platforms are most often abused through. There is no public content and no way to reach strangers:

  • Invitation-only. Content lives inside private spaces. Nothing is public, and no one can see a moment unless the space owner explicitly invited them.
  • No discovery. There is no public feed, no search for other users, no "people you may know," and no recommendations. Strangers cannot find you, your family, or your content.
  • No stranger contact. There is no open messaging, no friend requests, and no way for an unknown person to contact you. Comments and reactions only exist among the members a space owner personally invited.
  • Adults in control. The space owner decides exactly who is a member, what each member can see, and can remove any member or delete any content at any time.
  • A minimum age, and never a stranger. Using Moments requires a minimum age of 13 (or higher where local law requires). Any teenage member is only ever inside a private family space they were personally invited to — with no discovery, no public content, and no stranger contact, they never interact with anyone outside that invited family circle.

Together these mean Moments provides no mechanism to distribute content to the public or to unknown people — the pathway through which exploitation material is typically spread.

5. Encryption & its honest limits

Moments is end-to-end encrypted: content is encrypted on a member's device and is readable only by the people a space owner has invited. Our servers hold only ciphertext.

We are honest about the trade-off. Because content is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot and do not scan or monitor it. Our child-safety approach therefore rests on prevention by design (section 4), clear reporting channels, and decisive enforcement and cooperation with authorities on reports — not on surveillance of private family content. We believe a closed, stranger-free platform for a family's own memories is the right design, and we pair it with the responsibilities set out here.

6. Reporting a concern

Anyone can report suspected CSAE or a child-safety concern, and we take every report seriously:

  • In the app — members can report a post directly to our safety team, choosing a reason and adding a short description.
  • By email — contact our child-safety team at childsafety@momentsapp.eu at any time.

If a child is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first. You can also report CSAE directly to the relevant authority in your country, such as the NCMEC CyberTipline in the United States or your national child-protection hotline.

7. How we respond

When we receive a credible report of CSAE, we act promptly to:

  • review the report and the account, space, or membership involved;
  • remove offending members from a space and revoke their access;
  • suspend or permanently terminate the accounts responsible;
  • preserve the account-level information lawfully available to us for the authorities; and
  • report to law enforcement and the appropriate child-protection body as required by law.

8. Working with authorities

We cooperate with law enforcement and child-protection organizations in line with applicable law and valid legal process. Where we are required to report CSAE, we do so — for example to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or the competent authority in our jurisdiction. Because content is end-to-end encrypted, the information we are able to provide is account-level and metadata rather than message content; we provide what is lawfully available to us.

We comply with applicable child-safety laws in the jurisdictions where Moments is offered, and with the child-safety requirements of the app stores that distribute Moments, including Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy. We review these standards and our practices regularly and update them as laws and best practices evolve.

10. Point of contact

Our designated child-safety point of contact can be reached at childsafety@momentsapp.eu. This channel is monitored for reports of CSAE and for questions from users, regulators, and app-store partners.

We may update these standards as our product, the law, and industry best practices evolve. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
