If it's free, am I the product?
No. The free plan exists so you can trust Moments before you pay for it. We sell storage and comfort to the people who need more of it — we never sell attention, data, or your family. There are no ads and no analytics on your content on any plan, and end-to-end encryption means we couldn't read your moments even if we wanted to.
Do my family members need to pay?
Never. Only the person who owns a space subscribes. Everyone you invite — grandparents, friends, cousins — uses Moments completely free, with the same encryption and the same experience.
What happens to my photos if I cancel?
They remain yours. For a period of 6 months your space stays readable and downloadable — you just can't add beyond the free plan's limits until you resubscribe. After that, only data above the free plan's allowance, if applicable, is deleted, oldest first. The rest remains available to you at all times.
Can Moments employees see my photos?
No — and this is architecture, not policy. Photos and videos are encrypted on your device before upload, and the keys live only on your family's devices. Our servers store ciphertext they cannot decrypt, so there is nothing for an employee, an attacker, or a government request to see.
What if I lose my phone?
Space owners hold a recovery phrase that can restore access from a new device. Everyone else simply signs in on a new phone and gets re-approved by an admin — no memories are ever lost, and no stranger with your old phone number can get in.
How does translation work with encryption?
Wherever possible, translation now happens entirely on your device — on Android today, after a small one-time language download — so the text never leaves your phone at all. Cloud AI translation covers the rest: platforms without on-device support yet, and the optional "Improve with AI" button. It is entirely opt-in, and we ask for your consent before the first one. When you use it, your device decrypts the text and relays it through our servers to a third-party AI translation service — we never log or store it, and it isn't used to train anything. Every result is cached encrypted on your device. Nothing readable is ever stored on our servers, though cloud-translated text does transit our servers and the AI provider in the clear for the length of that one call — which is why it's your choice, every time.
